Generation Women Sydney — Bridging the Divide: Stories of unexpected connections

  • Generation Women Sydney 354 Bourke Street Surry Hills, NSW, 2010 Australia (map)

Does it feel harder to connect these days? You’re not alone. In a world that often feels busy and divided, it can be hard to find those real, human moments of connection. That’s where Generation Women comes in. Six incredible women — from their 20s through to their 70s+— step on stage to share true stories of connection that changed everything. From unexpected friendships to cultural encounters that opened new doors, each story will remind you that connection is possible, even when it feels out of reach.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. And you’ll leave with that little spark we all crave: the feeling that you’re not alone, and that together, we’re stronger.

💫 Our Performer Line-up:

Team 20s: Chelsea Hendra is an entrepreneur and footballer, aiming to tackle tough topics in sports through workshops and empower athletes and their supporters via her business, Change Makers.

Team 30s: Diana McLaren is a comedian, writer, event MC and all-around artist. Sometimes introduced as the queen of oversharing, she is known for always sharing her truth with kindness, love and humor.

Team 40s: Dr Fatma Al-widyan is an entrepreneur, educator and innovation leader empowering the next generation of engineers at UTS through hands-on projects tackling big challenges — from electric cars to space exploration. Passionate about inclusive pathways into STEM, Fatma champions creativity, collaboration and opportunities for underrepresented voices to shape the future of engineering.

Team 50s: Lisa Ireland is an author, podcaster and writing mentor. Her eighth novel, The Studio Girls, was published in May 2024. Lisa is a co-host of Writers Behaving Badly, a podcast that encourages listeners to let go of fear and embrace their creativity.

Team 60s: Dr Leda van der Post is a writer, artist and facilitator. Through both her personal art and her Creative Journey workshops, she invites people to use creative expression to shift how they see themselves and the world around them. Whether through painting, storytelling or guiding others, her work is grounded in curiosity, courage and care.

Team 70s: Karen Lindley AM has forged a remarkable dual career, becoming the first female gemologist to wholesale Australian black opal globally while dedicating over two decades to supporting survivors of child sexual assault. Her leadership in industry boards and her advocacy have earned her an Order of Australia for service to both the jewellery trade and social welfare.
